You might be thrilled with what you have accomplished in the past seven weeks.
You might be disappointed, because you feel you ‘should’ have done more.
Here’s what I want you to do.
Leave the computer. Go make a cuppa – tea, coffee, hot water… whatever floats your boat. Give yourself permission to have a Tim-Tam with it, if you really want to let your hair down. Then grab a notepad and pen.
Now take fifteen minutes to sit down and list ALL the things you’ve managed to get done over the past 7 weeks – writing, and all the other things that you had to do as well.
It’s a pretty big list, isn’t it?
You have to admit that you have managed to achieve one heck of a lot in seven weeks. You’re not a superhero – leastways, I don’t think you are – so you can be pretty pleased at getting it all done.
And there are still three weeks left!
Before you go back to your computer, there’s one thing left to do.
Decide on the most important thing you want to achieve in the next three weeks. BE REALISTIC. If you know you haven’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of finishing the book, then make your goal to finish the next three chapters, or scenes.
Told you this was a flexible challenge, didn’t I?
So far today I have:
- tested a product on DLGuard (it works! Yay!) and written a blog post on it here
- phoned a removalist and walked around the house with him while he gathered the info for his quote
- phoned the shop where I bought a new fridge and arranged to have it delivered to our new property
- patted Rob on the back while he negotiated various phone menus (“If you want to install a new service, press one. If you want to cancel a service, press two. If you….”) to get utilities installed at the new house
- stopped for a cup of coffee
- responded to comments on the 10-Week Writer’s Challenge blog
- started this post
For the rest of the day, I plan to transfer my other products to DLGuard and do some work on my next book for Kindle, and I want to put something up on the new Kindle site about the results of my Kindle promotion. Oh, and about some great books I found on Kindle.
So, guys… how are you all going????

I was going great Marg, until I read about the Tim-Tam – then I had to go away and eat some dark chocolate! I do know I haven’t got that snowball’s chance of finishing my chapter book, but thanks to your “One Hour Plot” I’ll be well on the way by the time the ten weeks are up.
. I also celebrated my wedding anniversary by watching the transit of Venus at the local observatory, and helped to run a three week children’s programme. Today I’ve helped out with reading at the local Intermediate School, worked on my chapter book revision, gone for a walk plus the usual housekeeping things as well as keeping up with emails and blogs. I think I’ll go and have a lie down
I took your advice and looked back at what I’d done over the previous weeks and was quite gob-smacked. Thanks for the reminder. Some of the highlights were submitting a story to ‘Grimm Fairy Tales for Aotearoa New Zealand, submitting a school play to Playmarket, a poem to ‘100 years from Gallipoli Poetry project’. I may not be successful, but I have been busy
Hi Marg
I went to Apple today and while there asked them if there was any program they’d recommend for a Mac in relation to creating a website. The assistant went and spoke to a ‘creative’ (don’t you love that?) and came back with ‘WordPress’. I was tempted to say a brilliant woman I know has already told me that!
Robyn
That’s really funny! Did he explain why you ran into trouble downloading WordPress?
Well Marg,
Only three weeks to go and I just don’t want this to end. It keeps me accountable and encouraged.
I have achieved parts of many things, but my goal for the next three weeks is to focus on three key priorities – my website, my Womens Cooperatives and my Social media.
I think I got so excited at all the knowledge on this site that I got lost in an orgy of exploration – which at 58, is kind of a thrill, but I did get lost in the excitement of possibilities.
So for me, the next few weeks are about building a website that I am happy to advertise and that has the essentials of what my work is tying it in with my Womens Cooperatives, twitter, Linked In and Facebook4Business. I have been playing around with all the social medias and now have an idea of what works with what.
I also start my first Womens Cooperative Group at The Big Pineapple within the next three weeks and that is actually something I am incredibly excited about.
What I have achieved is heaps already, too much to document, but what I have mostly recognised is my focus needs to tighten into those things that will bring me the most income and joy for my future. For me thats my Womens Cooperatives and writing. So ultimately – by the end of this challenge, I want to have my website up and running and congruent with my workshops, all my social media, have had my first workshop, attended at least three markets at The Big Pineapple and at Cotton Tree with my own products and have written at least my first chapter of my first e book.
And I want to eat Tim Tams at regular intervals while achieving this.
Best regards and encouragement to every one of you on the challenge, and to you Marg for giving us this amazing opportunity …a thousand thank yous.
I’m off to read my WordPress for Website download.
Lee
Wow, Lee, I’m getting dizzy just reading about all that you’re doing! Good going!
Even when we finish the 10-Week Writer’s Challenge, you can still chat on the Writing4Success Blog – I’ll be posting there more regularly once the Challenge has finished.
Plus we can all see each other on Good Reads etc… !
PS – I still haven’t figured out how to change my gravatar into my picture on this site?
Did you know your Gravatar is tied to an email address? If you use the same email addy on this blog as the one you use for Gravatar, it should show up. I think.
Marg, I can’t find the week 7 info?
You’ll find the ‘welcome’ blog for each week of the Challenge in the ‘Week by Week’ section for categories.
The other posts are all filed under relevant categories, but if you want to see which posts appeared in a certain week, just work out the dates and look at the calendar in the right-hand column. That shows the dates that posts were made, and by clicking on any date you can see which posts went up that day. So for Week 7 posts, you’ll find that posts went up on 4th, 5th and 6th of June. Just click on those dates… and voila!
